Dear fellow CCPIO members:

We’re headed to Portland for our 2018 annual meeting and hope you can join us for an informative conference, which will teach you about the latest trends in court communications, as well as provide numerous opportunities to exchange ideas, learn from each other and network. I hope you will take a few moments to look over the conference agenda. The Oregon Host Team and the CCPIO Education Committee have put together an amazing program. Conference participants can look forward to sessions on communications and branding strategies from public affairs/communications experts in the Portland area. We’ll learn how courts are using artificial intelligence to improve access to justice and how to communicate during a public relations crisis and a natural disaster. And, of course, our fellow CCPIO members will share their expertise and tips.

We’re excited that Portland is hosting our conference. The hotel is in an up-and-coming area of the city, just steps from the light rail from the airport. Trip Advisor says: “You’ll wonder why you don’t live in Portland after you’ve visited this laid-back and friendly city. With a reputation for manicured parks, eclectic nightlife, fine micro-breweries and distilleries, and nature that cuts right into the city, Portland’s a Pacific Northwest must-visit. Portland is home to Phillip Margolin, an attorney and author of legal thrillers, who will close out the conference Wednesday with a firsthand account of how his experience with law and the courts informs his fiction writing.

Registration Fee Waiver

As an incentive for members whose courts may not be able to cover the cost of the annual meeting, the CCPIO Board is offering a limited number of registration fee waivers (does not include annual dues). Members who receive a registration waiver must attend the annual meeting in its entirety.

To be considered for a registration fee waiver, please submit a written request to Leah.Gurowitz@dcsc.gov. Please explain to the board why you want to attend, how the annual meeting relates to your current assignment or performance goals, and the future impact the educational programming will have on your court, department, district or other judicial personnel. You must include documentation from your court’s chief justice, court administrator or other supervisory authority as to the court\’s lack of funding to cover the registration fee. Because we must limit the number of waivers, please submit your request as soon as possible.

The CCPIO Board sincerely hopes you will join us in Portland July 29-Aug. 1.
