Welcome! From CCPIO President, Darren Toms

Welcome to CCPIO.org!
We’re glad you found our page. If you aren’t familiar with the organization, we hope you will take a few minutes to click around our website and get to know us a bit.
CCPIO represents public information officers (PIOs), public/ community relations professionals, and a range of other court employees with various roles in local, state and federal courts, rural and urban, trial and appellate, all the way up to and including the US Supreme Court. Our members are a diverse and dynamic group, all committed to ensuring greater understanding of the court system.
If you are a court PIO and/or community outreach professional and have not yet joined CCPIO, we are glad you came to this page and hope you’ll join us. If you are a reporter who covers courts, we hope you’ll be able to learn from the site, and gain an appreciation for what we do…and help us to do it better.
The highlight of our year is the CCPIO annual meeting, which is a 3-day conference with educational sessions tied to our core competencies, as well as opportunities to get to know other PIOs. These conferences are incredible learning experiences with presentations on the latest trends and best practices in court communications. They also represent a valuable networking opportunity for those in the profession.
I have learned a great deal from my CCPIO colleagues. The organization’s greatest strength is the collective wisdom, talents and expertise of its over 100 members, a collegial group who support each other and are happy to share ideas and insights. The organization’s members are mostly from the US, but also some from our neighbors to the north in Canada, as well as members from the Philippines, and Trinidad/Tobago. We are led by a board of directors which is assisted by the work of our committees.
We welcome your interest and, if you’re a PIO or court outreach professional, we hope you’ll join our organization.
There are many benefits of membership (such as being on our #Slack Workspace, which enables you to get expert advice near instantaneously!). You’ll find your fellow CCPIO members are happy to share their knowledge – and we are sure to benefit from new voices, each with their own particular expertise and experience.
Thanks for visiting CCPIO.org. We’ll leave you with a quote that underscores the importance of court communications work to our system of government:
“Justice must not just be done, it must manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done.”
–Lord Chief Justice Hewart, 1924
